The Organic Movement

I’ll be the first to say that it bothers me that we even have to have Organic food. If it’s proven to be better for us, and a healthier way of living, then why do we allow companies to use pesticides or processed foods that give little to no nutritional value???
If you’re like me, just a few years ago we thought that organic was just some hippy product to sell at a premium. It’s quite the opposite now, with the coming of the Organic Movement stores like Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods have millions of followers and shopping at these places has become a status symbol. Vanity and health is another topic we’ll cover extensively on Hyperion Health. But I digress, as these stores become more popular the more accessible organic food becomes, but it also opens the door to more copy-cats.
Organic foods go through a very strict process in determining whether or not they are organic, and the fines are steep for those who violate the regulations. ($10,000 fine per offense) Just beware of foods that say to be “natural” or “free-range” those are NOT the same as organic. The USDA Organic badge is the most certain way to spot a legitimately organic product. This process does contribute to a higher cost, but because of the growing popularity of organic foods prices are becoming more manageable and maybe that brand new car in the driveway every 3 years should be replaced with an investment in your family’s health.
